Planet Creature and After Maeve

Frank Coughlan and Robyn Brady are parents of Maeve who was killed in a road accident, at age 10, in November 2003. Jan Cattoni is a friend and documentary film Director of After Maeve: a film about the family and Maeve's friends following her death. The film is generating much interest internationally. This blog is for Frank, Robyn and Jan to offer thoughts as the film and the Planet Creature website are viewed by audiences in different countries.

State of Play 2009

Robyn here. Thank you to those who have seen and appreciated our film. It is nearly six years since Maeve died. We all think of her every day, but generally not in a sad way. In many ways for all three of us she gives our lives more depth and meaning. Here are some photos of us now. Frank is heading off to Arizona to the annual international festival of the psycho-therapeutic process known as deep interactive imagery, which continues to be his major work focus, although he also loves his work as a primary school pastoral care worker. I have turned 50, lost 6 kg, survived breast cancer, and stopped dyeing my hair. I continue to enjoy being a physician, and I continue to explore art and writing. I did write the Patsi Zipping novel, but it didn't work, even though many of the characters and images remain alive inside me.
As for Tara, well, she is really something, a 14yo in high school, walking to and fro by herself and juggling keys, electronic devices, shopping, cooking, assignments... She bears the load of the 'one left behind' with incredible resilience, no doubt aided by a very practical nature, our adoration, and an awareness that Maeve would be proud of her.

Hi Robyn, I am sitting here watching your story on TV and just had to come visit Maeve's site. Your husband and yourself have done an amazing job in the way that you have dealt with the loss of your darling daughter and the way you have supported her friends in their loss. All the best for your family in the future.
cheers, Grace.

This afternoon I sat down to rest (I have the flu) and watched "After Maeve" on SBS Television - I did not know your story previously. I just want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU, for your courage to make the film and for making me realise just how important and precious the little things that our children do are. And of course all the creativeness scattered all over their bedrooms that will now stay there. Michelle
